IUCAN – The passage of the Thyphoon Nakoe through the city of Iucan, in the Brugas archipelago (Neo Delta), has brought destruction to the area according to those who witnessed the phonomenon.
Nakoe has brought flooding, landslides and destruction to the island of Danipa, in the north of the Brugas archipelago, destroying homes and some infrastructure of the four cities that compose the island: Danipa, Fluka, Tedema and Iucan, where the effects of the Thyphoon have been more destructive.
An emergency evacuation plan was created by the city hall together with a special force from Taiago and Malojdeh. More than half of the 60,000 inhabitants of Iucan have been evacuated the safe areas in the city or in the city of Danipa, in the south. The thyphoon made landfall on Friday night, with strong winds and rain. There are reports of buildings collapsing in the neighborhood on Benu, and specialist teams from the Taiago and Malojdeh are assisting with search and rescue.
Strong winds and heavy rain have also battered the island of Reme, north of Iucan. Search and rescue teams are on standby and emergency supplies of blankets, sleeping mats, hygiene kits and water carriers have been sent from stores in Danipa to a warehouse in Iucan ready for distribution in the coming days.
This is the second typhoon to hit the Brugas archipelago in two years. Some experts, like professor Masta Eipa-Tsuke, from Taiago’s Neo Delta Climate Research Center, blame climate change caused by global warming as one of the justifications for the phenomenon. From 2000 to 2014, only one other typhoon has hit the same area.
