Řots Exit polls: two parties battle for victory; heavy losses for ŘPP

(Nekkar, 30 August 2015) – Chaos in the political parties who have gathered on various locations in Nekkar (Řots) to watch the results of the parliamentary election that was held today, after the first exit polls were announced: DP (Farmers), PA (Progress) and ŘPP (Workers) are leading the election with a margin that is too close to call. Essential seem however the provincial seats, which weren’t up for election today: Farmers and Workers both benefit from two additional seats, due to which the race will be limited to those two parties as both may gain 9 or 10 seats, whereas the Progress Party (without any provincial seats), will probably stick behind with only 7 seats, even behind the PP (Feudal Party), which may get 8.

The ruling ŘPP suffered a heavy loss today, falling from 15 seats to 9 or 10. Prime minister Kar Basil Ītase addressed her fellow party members shortly after the first results came in, telling them that this result is unacceptable, no matter the final outcome, so she will step down to allow someone else to lead the government, in the event that the ŘPP still manages to win and can form a government.

Other loosing parties are the Feudal party (12 to a prospective 8), the PD (Party for the Citizen, 4 to 3) and the Republicans (9 to 6). The Progress Party and the Party for Shared Possession (PBS) re-enter the Řosu Git after several years of absence, and the Farmers’ Party increases its number of seats from 7 to 9 or 10.

Government formation will become difficult. Whichever party will win the election, they have to find support from other parties in order to find majorities (normally 26 of 51 seats, but in practise only 25 of 48 as the three seats that are reserved for members of the nobility haven’t been occupied for many years). The leader of the Farmers’ Party, Vervets Bekřa Nureet, told the press that anyone who can count can see that the chances for the ŘPP to obtain enough support are extremely slim.

As soon as the final results have been announced, somewhere in the next couple of days, the party leaders will visit the judges of the Constitutional Court who will then nominate the next prime minister.

Freedemia’s president Angela Rosenthal graded 95%, highest approval rating in nation’s history

QUENTINSBURGH- Things are looking good for Angela Rosenthal, Freedemia’s current president. Progress World Network recently did a poll of voters in Freedemia to see how they felt the government and the nation were doing as a whole. However, the poll also included a question about the current president’s leadership, as well as a similar question about the vice president.

Reporters were extremely surprised when the poll results came in for President Rosenthal. When asked “Do you approve of the current president’s leadership of the United Freedemian Union and her actions in office?”, a whopping 95% of Freedemian voters chose either “Yes” or “Absolutely”. Only 4% voted “indifferent” and less than 1% voted “no” or “definitely not”. The poll only had a 2% margin of error. This was literally the highest approval rating in the nation’s modern history, beating out president Walter Sanderson who had an approval rating of 93% and the previous president, Cara Harolds, who had an approval rating of 85%.

Vice President Tom Morganson did not do nearly as well in polls, though still not bad. When asked a very similar question, voters gave him a weak 49% approval rating and about 48% indifferent.

Angela Rosenthal had been sort of a surprise unknown candidate in the primary election of 2014. Very few had even heard of the chemistry teacher from James Fredrick High School in Quentinsburgh before her bid for president. Eventually she came from nowhere in the elections and tied with Tom Morganson in the main election, then barely beating him out in the runoff to become president and to make Morganson her VP.

Critics believe that Rosenthal’s actions in office have truly helped her. Since in office she has helped to make sure men and women are paid equally, helped Freedemian industry thrive, helped improve healthcare and transportation infrastructure, reformed citizenship requirements for people born outside of the country, helped Freedemia make steps back towards being a world leader in technology, helped bring the Geolympiad to Quentinsburgh, and created positive relations with a very large number of nations, including the recently restabilized Woolonia. Most believe Rosenthal has done more in office in under two years than any other president. The only exception was Cara Harolds; however, most of her many actions were undoing issues created by presidents Harris Graham and Robert Kenderson, who had made a lot of bad decisions for the nation based off their own beliefs.

Rosenthal was pleased and has promised to keep up the good work. She has also made it quite clear she intends on running for the three terms she is allowed in the Freedemian Constitution. It seems very likely that she will win those elections unless something big changes between now and 2018.

Two days before the election, almost 50% of the voters of Řots haven’t decided yet

(Nekkar, 28 August 2015) – Today is the last day of the campaign before the elections for the Řosu Git (Řots’s national parliament) that will take place in two days. According to a poll, almost 50% of the voters don’t know yet for whom they will vote.

Nevertheless, a comeback seems assured for the once prominent liberal-conservative Progress Party (Parti Askandats), which lost all of its seats during the previous elections; it remains to be seen however if they will become the largest party, with incumbent prime minister Kar Basil Ītase’s Workers’ Party of Řots (Řosu Parti Paressevuda) seeming to have an almost equal chance to win again, despite some losses. A surprise may however be caused by the Farmers’ Party (Devē Parti), which could become the largest according to at least one poll and whose promise to deal with the increasing cases of human trafficking in Řots has attracted quite some support.

The main issue in this election is however freedom of education. Schools and (to a lesser extent) universities in Řots have to follow a rather fixed curriculum, which assures that everyone gets the same education. The Progress Party has argued that this is in conflict with the freedom of speech and wants to introduce a more flexible system. The ŘPP on the other hand wants to assure that every citizen of Řots gets the same basic information when they grow up, although curiosity to check the truth of all information should be encouraged. Critics say that this subject is too complicated for the average voter in Řots, which is why the Farmers’ Party (which currently has only 7 votes in the 51 member Řosu Git) is doing reasonably well.

QUARTA, QDOT approve improved bus lanes, bike lanes on most major streets

QUENTINSBURGH- The Quentins Department of Transportation and QUARTA have approved improvements to almost all major streets in Quentinsburgh, Freedemia and surrounding cities. Most improvements are related to improved bus lanes, crosswalks, and bicycle lanes.
There are three different parts of the new plan, all of which will be under construction starting very soon. The first part is improving major urban roadways with major bus routes by improving the bus priority lane (the lane that allows right turns and bus traffic only), making a separated bike lane, bus stops separated from the main sidewalk and new crosswalks at major bus stops. This is on most major streets in Quentinsburgh and will likely cause the most delays. However, the QDOT says the inconvenience and delays will be outweighed by the improvements in speed on bus lines and increased safety for cyclists. Currently, on many major corridors, the bike lane is simply painted on with little protection for cyclists, while also inconveniently separating bus lanes from bus stops. This is a safety hazard for cyclists, as well as for bus passengers, which are often almost hit by cyclists. The new design will include a separated bike lane with special yield signs and crosswalks at each major bus stop. This will be especially helpful on the BLine and CLine Bus Rapid Transit routes, which recently had route changes.

Design of the proposed bus and bike lane improvements on most major roads. Separated bike lanes will now go behind bus stops for safety, while new crosswalks at major stops will be added.
“There are two main things that make BRT successful- dedicated lanes, which improve speed and convenience, and preboarding fare collection,” stated current QUARTA head, Franklin Liebermoore. “While only the BRT lines will have the fare part, bringing the dedicated lanes to other frequently used local and express routes will have a huge impact.”

In this plan, existing BRT lanes and stations will also be improved.

The second part, and the least expensive, is designating one lane (usually the far left) on major freeways as a bus priority lane. Like the bus priority lanes on major streets, some long distance traffic will be allowed to use the lanes. However, in this case, only those vehicles with 3 or more passengers will be allowed to “share the lane”. This is really only on the U-204 for the XLine express BRT and on the far north part of the U-4 for other major express routes.

The third part is simply creating separated bike lanes on all other major corridors without major bus traffic.

This plan comes amidst a huge push within Quentinsburgh and Freedemia as a whole towards more Eco-friendly transport. (For example, Freedemian auto manufacturer Starmobile-Jazzalini is researching solar energy for future auto and bus models.) This would not only be a huge change for public transit- the improvements to the bike lanes all over the Quentinsburgh metropolitan area would virtually turn every major corridor into a bikeway, greatly encouraging travel by bicycle, and perhaps even leading long term to a bikeshare system operated by QUARTA.

Considering the massive amounts of streets that will be improved, the cost is estimated around 2.5 billion Freedins to complete. However, a large amount of that will be funded by tolls on the U-204 and donations from environmental organizations. New tolls are also being considered on the U-104 to help with the cost.

The QDOT hopes to eventually work beyond the Quentinsburgh area with these ideas with the hope that the rest of Freedemia will also make similar steps forward in making a less auto-reliant, more eco friendly society.

Pyingshum-sur City Council announcing plans for 2 new metro lines

PYINGSHUM – Today, Pyingshum City Council announced the official approval of a major addition to the capital’s public transportation system. Two new metro lines now enter the building phase, with completion expected by 2020, to bring the city’s total count of metro lines to 12 (14, when including the Airport Express and the S-Bahn ring).

Both lines will serve two main purposes: firstly, increasing capacity for passengers going west-east, and secondly increasing coverage in two neglected areas in inner Pyingshum; The green line in the north will run directly through the newly revitalised Pamyung-Pang, bringing the metro to the heart of the city’s most densely populated neighbourhood. The yellow line to the south will give coverage to many former blank spots on the southern side of the Kime River, and ease transit there. City authorities hope that this will make the southern shore more attractive for tourism and nightlife, especially in one of the city’s oldest quarters, Doíku-Pang. Also, the yellow line will serve as an additional connection to the Pyinshum Chin Olympia Shtadiong (Pyingshum New Olympia Stadium), which until now can only be accessed via car or S-Bahn ring line. For the most part underground, the green line will be built parallel to eastbound highspeed-railway-tracks in the east, while for the yellow line it is still an issue of debate about from what point on the line should be lead aboveground in the suburbs.

A total of 8 Norikichezis (Stations at which two or more lines meet, and which serve as Express-stops) will be built from scratch, and the lines will go through 10 other already existing transfer station. The number of new to be built local stops is still under debate, as it has yet to be confirmed how far the new lines will reach out into the suburbs.

PS new metro linesCosts are estimated to be around 200 Billion Zubi, or roughly 8.5 Billion USD (united standard dollar).

Megamer Games’ “Snapster the Turtle and the Not-so-Parallel Dimension” release huge success, soon to be released internationally

QUENTINSBURGH- Freedemia’s game company Megamer Games has succeeded in releasing another hit classic. Shortly after releasing a new tablet-like handheld console (the newest in the GameOne series) they revived their biggest hit character, Snapster the Turtle, for another big game based off the originals.

Based very closely off the original classics made for the Megamer128 console, this new game is the flagship game for the newly released GameOne Supernova console (released in Freedemia late-July 2015). In the game, Snapster’s inventor dad tries to invent a dimension traveling device to look at different parallel dimensions to discover ways to improve society. However, Snapster accidentally activates it before the “return” function was completed, whisking him away to another dimension with no way to return back. To his surprise, he ends up in a world where the villain, Dr. Harebrain is the good guy and where the parallel universe Snapster and his dad are the evil villains!! Finding ‘himself’ the hardest villain to defeat yet, Snapster sets out to defeat the evil Snapster and save both dimensions. The battle will find its way through several levels based off of those in the original 3 games, as well as in both dimensions, and even to a third dimension where both Snapsters are thrown into a glitchy parallel dimension where the game begins freezing as part of the plot.

Lovers of the original Snapster games will love the references back to the original games and the internal video game jokes, such as the final level in the glitch dimension. The first game in what will likely be a new trilogy of games comes after a break between classic type games. Snapster had been featured in one three-dimensional game (Snapster3DGo) and three two-dimensional scroller in the last seven years or so. Snapster3DGo was widely popular, but not exactly very similar to the original games in gameplay due to the three-dimensional playing field. The three scrollers, Snapster NG, Snapster Galaxy and Snapster Nebula, made for the GameOne NG (2008), GameOne Galaxy (2010) and the GameOne Nebula (2012) respectively, were all relatively popular, but were made with much more modern graphics, largely showing off what the newer consoles could do, and often recycling old plots. However, this new game has an original and well-thought-out plot and is made with the original 128-bit graphics as a homage to the originals.

“Imagine this game as Snapster the Turtle 4,” stated Lee Burmikael, CEO of Megamer Games since 2013 and the head of the development team for the new game. “The plots, graphics, and features were made especially to feel like a continuation of the original trilogy.” So far, classic gamers have agreed, as this Snapster the Turtle game had more preorders than any in history before it, and the most first day sales since Snapster The Turtle 3 was released in 1999. Some gamers are already joining special programs that make them the first in line for preorders of Snapster the Turtle 5 (expected to be released in 2019).

“I am committed to bringing the success of the classic days back to Megamer,” states Burmikael, referring to the fact that Megamer Games is no longer the international name for classic great games. Many other companies have sprouted up, boasting newer and ‘better’ graphics, creating three dimensional shooters, motion-based consoles and other such games. In response to a question about the pressures from these newer game companies, he responded, “That’s just not how we work here at Megamer games. We are dedicated to giving a clean, simple, yet uniquely classic family friendly game experience to all who play. We continue to use newer technology to improve what we can do, but we won’t compromise our core values just to get gameplay.” Burmikael said that he is working under a new model to move the company back towards making great games in contrast to just trying to make the most powerful consoles. “After all,” he stated, “what good is a console with no good games?”

The original game Snapster the Turtle and the sequel were both released onto the Megamer128 console (the first in 1990, the second around 1992), and later ported for the StayGamer and the GoGamer around 1995. Snapster the Turtle 3 was released for the GameOne and GoGamerOne in 1999, and a collector’s combo pack of all three was released in 2002 for the GameTwo and GoGamerTwo. The Game3 console (2005) was sold with the first Snapster the Turtle game as a featured title, and was later the home of Snapster3DGo.

Megamer has also released some information about plans to revive the classic Legend Of Karla series on this new console, as well as information about a new game that is still in development.

The GameOne Supernova, as well as the new Snapster The Turtle and the Not-so-Parallel Dimension video game, are to be released internationally on August 29th. The original 3 Snapster the Turtle games and Snapster3DGo have gotten a couple updates and new features and will be released as a new 15th Anniversary Edition combo 4-pack for the SuperNova internationally the same day.
