QUENTINSBURGH- The night service slot in QUARTA’s schedule is not very large, just a four hour window between midnight and 4am. However, a new shift in night service on metro lines is coming, in light of new lines and various service changes. The changes, listed below, involve eliminating night service on 2 lines and combining 4 other lines into two night only lines in a move to fight redundancy.
Combining lines 8 and 11 into line 8N during night service
Since not a lot of people are riding the lines at night, one of the biggest changes will be the creation of the 8N, a night service only route that will replace lines 8 and 11 every 20 minutes between midnight and 4 am. The line will service the same stations normally for the 8 and 11 and reduce redundancies by consolidating them into one line when there isn’t enough demand for two.
Combining lines 9 and 10 into line 9N during night service
Similarly, a line 9N (to replace 9 and 10) will be added, running every 20 minutes between midnight and 4 am. The line will service the same stations normally for the 9 and 10 and reduce redundancies by consolidating them into one line when there isn’t enough demand for two.
Eliminating night service on line 12 altogether
Line 12 will completely stop running during the night (midnight to 4 am). Lines 13 and 4 will still run as normal and act as the alternative route.
Eliminating night service on line 14 altogether
Line 14 basically runs the same path as lines 1 and 7, both with express service at night. At night that redundancy isn’t needed, so line 14 will lose nighttime service. Line 6 will run all the way to Haroldsborough at night, replacing the line 14 running local all the way until morning.
Changes are expected to become effective April 1st, as line 14 begins to operate.
